FieldTurf’s Friday Super Bowl updates

Last minute Super Bowl scoop provided by FieldTurf

TGIF…Friday means it’s almost the weekend, and that means the Super Bowl is finally upon us!  What a crazy week it’s been, so let’s examine some of the latest headlines going into Sunday:

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin recently expressed his delight with the team’s practice field for the week at the University of Indianapolis.  “This is an outstanding facility, absolutely outstanding”, Coughlin was quoted as saying.  The FieldTurf surface at the university replicates the surface at Lucas Oil Stadium where the Patriots have been practicing all week and where the Super Bowl will be played – giving the Giants an equal advantage heading into the game.  Coughlin’s support for FieldTurf only further drives home the message that FieldTurf is appreciated among the NFL’s elite ranks, and if supported by the NFL it surely can be supported throughout all of football.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski of the Patriots and running back Ahmad Bradshaw of the New York Giants dominated the headlines regarding their statuses for Sunday’s game.  Gronkowski, battling a high ankle sprain, resumed practice on Thursday without a walking boot.  His status for Sunday is questionable.  Bradshaw is battling a foot injury, and also remains questionable for Sunday’s game.  Coach Coughlin does however anticipate Bradshaw playing, as he’s battled this injury for most of the year and played through it.  Both these players’ roles could be altered depending on their health come Sunday, and it’ll be interesting to see how both their lower body injuries react to the FieldTurf surface that’s generally welcoming for athletes.

Breakout wide receiver Victor Cruz of the New York Giants came out this week and proclaimed his excitement for the matchup he’s set to face in the New England secondary.  The NFL’s leading receiver this season is known for his speed, which will be a tremendous positive for the Giants on Lucas Oil Stadium’s fast FieldTurf surface.  The Patriots have battled injuries and inconsistent play in their secondary this season, often even being forced to play wide receivers at the position!  The Giants receivers vs. the Patriots defensive backs will be a critical matchup to watch during the game, and how they react to the quick FieldTurf surface.

Pats coach Bill Belichick is at it again, changing the way NFL teams practice!  The Patriots, in anticipation for Sunday, stopped practice abruptly and simulated an actual 30+ minute halftime break.  The players, including Brady, responded well to the tactic – and praised their coach for trying to prepare anyway possible for the game.  Similar to adjusting to the field conditions, teams need to familiarize themselves with all their surroundings – and no question both the Pats and Giants will be familiar with the FieldTurf.  Should yield tremendous results on both sides!

Super Bowl Village, located just outside Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis, has been a buzz the entire week leading up to Super Bowl XLVI.  With NFL festivities occurring and live shows being put on, the atmosphere has been simply outstanding.  FieldTurf was heavily involved with all the action, and proud to offer a helping hand to the city.

Chad Ochocinco, a forgotten man it seems this season, is in the Super Bowl!  In rather unusual fashion, you haven’t heard much about or from him this week…  Typical Patriots fashion, Ochocinco has put the interests of the team ahead of his own, and the former All-Pro wideout will suit up for his first Super Bowl.  His role, which has been limited all year, could be redefined this Sunday.  With Gronkowski’s status up in the air, this may be the perfect opportunity for Ochocinco to step up and deliver a big performance.  Bill Belichick loves devising plans where his team comes out and flat out surprises you – and what could be more surprising than the Pats involving Ochocinco early and often, and putting him in a position to succeed when he has countless times in his career.

We at FieldTurf hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage this past week of Super Bowl XLVI.  With the matchup thoroughly analyzed, there’s nothing left but to enjoy the game!
